Q&A: How can I turn my wedding dress into a creative keepsake?

Question by Madeline: How can I turn my wedding dress into a creative keepsake?

I’m looking to create a beautiful keepsake out of my wedding dress. Does anyone have any good ideas, or patterns? I’ve thought about maybe a pillow, but that seems a little common.
Please help.

You could buy a doll and have a dress made for the doll out of your dress.

Some people will have the dress cut into Christening outfits if they think they might have their future children baptized.

You could cut pieces of the fabric and lace and have them framed like a picture, or in a shadow box with your wedding picture.

You could make fabric flowers out of the material and turn it into a bouquet and put that in a shadow box or under a dome.

Question by Cat M: How to dress down a bridesmaid dress?

I have a very simple, tea length, sleeveless, black bridesmaid dress that I’ve worn already. It’s that dressy silky material. What can I do to dress it down to wear to a wedding that I’m not in the wedding party? I dont want to look too dressy like I’m trying to look like I’m in the wedding party but if there’s a way I can dress it down I dont want to have to buy another dress.

Question by lmb: Where can I get a bridesmaid dress altered in Milwaukee?

I am looking for a good seamstress/tailor in the Milwaukee area. I need to get a bridesmaid dress totally altered (and I mean drastically – I suspect it will need to be taken apart and put back together) and I am not sure where to go. Thanks for the help!

check out bridal stores, cloth stores like joanne’s, and dry cleaners. they all have people that work there or advertise. sometimes tailors at like, the men’s warehouse or places will know of someone too! look under alterations in the yellow pages of your phone book if all else fails! and is there a coordinator for the wedding? they should have a number or two!

How important is location for a wedding planner/consultant?

Question by rdwsats: How important is location for a wedding planner/consultant?

I really want to look into this job but I’m wondering- is location extremely important? Does someone trying to be a wedding planner in somewhere other than the northern states (new york, jersey, etc..) even stand a chance at making much money at this job?

Best answer:

Answer by Beemerkingz
I guess your skill is more important. If you can compete with/exceed the other wedding planners and build a reputation your chances are good. I believe word-to-mouth is an important factor in that line of work.

Follow your passion, get good at it and you will succeed. Good luck!

How do I properly preserve my Indian wedding dress?

Question by monkeymunch: How do I properly preserve my Indian wedding dress?

Well I’m Indian, so my wedding dress was made up of 3 parts. The veil, and a top and bottom. It is heavily beaded and I was wondering if anyone knew how I would be able to keep my wedding dress sparkling. I’m thinking an Acid-free box with acid free tissue, but would that help my wedding outfit as well because it’s not like a plain white dress. I really want to preserve my beading. Thanks in advance!

Best answer:

Answer by Loretta Marie C
Buy a paper called TALAS its an acid Free paper. you can get it online, I think the site is on google. I used it for my wedding dress… it was white pure white.
do not whatsoever put your dress or outfit in black plastic or any plastic bags.
wrap the outfit in talas paper, inside outside and place in a airdry acid free box it will cost you close to maybe 300.00 to do this but it will last forever!

Question by Marla: What kind of wedding dresses can a 36 year old first time bride wear?

I don’t think I would choose a big fluffy dress anyway but my mother acts like I should wear a pants-suit down the aisle because of my age. What do you think is age appropriate for a first time bride of my age? I would love to see sample pictures if you would post links, that would be excellent! Thank you. Please, no rude answers.

You can wear whatever you want. It’s YOUR wedding, not your mother’s. Choose something that is comfortable and makes you feel like the beautiful bride you will be.
